Have your date pick you up at your home.
This way your family will be able to give him the once over. They may be more discerning than you are at this time.

Checkout the condition of your dates car.
A messy car may give you a hint about his personality and lifestyle.
Don't dress to skimpy.
He may think you're easy and begin pressuring you for sex.
Don't drink or use drugs.
You or your date may end up doing something that you will regret. And, teenage drinking is one of the number one causes of teenage death.
Don't order the most expnsive thing on the menu.
He may think you're a gold digger.
Ask your date questions about himself and his interests.
It will show that you are interested in getting to know him.
At the end of the date, let him know if you had a great time.
It will increase the likelyhood of him calling you for a second date.
Call your date to make sure he made it home safe.
This is common courtesy.
